Hardwood: Exotic Species, Hand-Scraped, and Reclaimed Plank are New Hot Looks for Floors
Exotic woodsDecades ago, the wood of choice for most homes was either red or white oak. Inexpensive and durable, oak was used in millions of homes across the country. Little wonder that most people think that oak is the only species of wood suitable or available for flooring. Now, beautiful species that previously had been used for furniture are now available as either solid or engineered wood flooring. These species come from all over the world, and offer beautiful, surprisingly affordable looks most consumers never imagined they could have in their home. Best of all, we sell only products that comply with all international “green” harvesting practices to preserve rainforest and resources. These woods are available in solid thicknesses from 5/16” to ¾”, in widths from 3’ to 7 3/4”, as well as engineered wood that can be used just about anywhere in the home---even below-grade basements. Our most popular imported species are: Amendiom, Angelim, Brazilian Cherry, Brazilian Eucalyptus, Brazilian Teak, Macchicato Pecan, Santos Mahogany, Teak, Tiete Chestnut, Tiete Rosewood, Tigerwood, Venetian Walnut, and Victorian Paduok. Other species are available. Domestic speciesDomestic species available include: red and white oak, maple, cherry, hickory, walnut and beech.
Hand-Scraped WoodHand-scraped wood floors are solid wood or engineered flooring that has been scraped and distressed by hand to give the floor more texture, warmth and character. Hand-scraped floors are available in a variety of stained colors, as well as natural and unfinished. Wood species available include oak, walnut, American cherry, pine, hickory, angelim and maple. Board widths from 3” to 7” are available, allowing for a broad range of looks from formal to country. You can even create your own custom look by varying board widths—for instance, mixing 3” and 7” widths to create a custom pattern. Most hand-scraped floors have a durable protective urethane applied for scratch resistance. These finishes can carry extended warranties of up to 25 years! Easy to Maintain: Hand-scraping adds richness to the floor, but is no more difficult to clean than a regular hardwood floor. Simply sweep the floor often to remove dirt, and damp mop regularly with products such as Minwax® Hardwood Floor Cleaner to help maintain it’s good looks. Some other tips to protect your hardwood floor:
Reclaimed Plank, Barn Board, Heartpine and Wide PlankReclaimed Plank
For those who want a truly unique, individual, warm floor, consider "antique" wood that once was part of a structure and has been carefully removed and prepared to become a work of art in your home. One can't help but feel good using this material in your home. Just think, this wood was once a tree that may have been 150 years old and withstood all that Mother Nature could put it through. Then it had a second life as a barn or other structure, and now it will enjoy a third life as the focal point of your home. Wide Plank We also have access to new wide planks for floors, harvested from upper state New York and New England. Commonly available is longleaf Southern Pine or Heartpine, Walnut, Hickory, Cherry, Maple, and Red or White Oak. Let us help you incorporate a beautiful wood flooring your home.
